"Today, we celebrate 95 years of providing client service, the Right Way. Our firm's great heritage and legacy, started by Nat Turner in 1929, has developed into a firm serving the needs of clients across the Southeast generation after generation. From the base created by Nat, joined later by Fletcher Padget, Harrell Graham and E.W. Laney, we have grown, evolved and adapted through to become the firm we are today. We are thankful for their contributions and eager to continue contributing to the life of the firm and to our clients." - Pierce Campbell, CEO and Shareholder

Thank you to ALM for including our Chief Executive Officer Pierce Campbell in yesterday’s important webinar, “How to Tackle the Biggest Challenges for Law Firms: Succession Planning.” Pierce was joined by fellow leaders of midsized law firms from across the country, industry experts, and The American Lawyer’s new editor-in-chief David Gialanella and Chief Strategist Patrick Fuller. We are grateful to David and Patrick for raising such an important issue, and we’re thankful that Pierce was able to lend his perspective from Turner Padget’s success in this area.

Greenville attorney Christopher D. Scalzo, Esq. published an article in the April edition of South Carolina Lawyers Weekly about a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that reviewed the role of the Double Jeopardy Clause. The February unanimous SCOTUS decision in McElrath v. Georgia ruled that once a jury acquits an individual at trial, even if it simultaneously issues an inconsistent guilty verdict, the Double Jeopardy Clause prevents the government from retrying the person for the acquitted charge. Scalzo provides background on the case, which involved the tragic death of a mother at the hands of her 18-year-old son, who also suffered from mental health challenges. You can read more about the case and SCOTUS’ ruling in the April digital edition, on page 28, of the South Carolina Lawyers Weekly, available online here: https://lnkd.in/eQKqX8Rv
