Event Description:

Health care reform is upon us and already impacting you, your business and your bottom line!  On Tuesday, March 23, President Barack Obama signed into law a landmark health care reform bill that will impact every American.  The law brings $528 billion in total cuts to Medicare, creates $569 billion in new taxes and tax increases and will cost $2 trillion over 10 years. The bill will not be fully implemented until 2014, but tax increases will begin immediately. Other changes begin as early as July 2010. Click here for a complete agenda. This one-day symposium will explain every angle of the legislation.  Topics that will be covered include but are not limited to:

  • Industry fees, including the annual fee on health insurance providers, medical equipment manufacturers and importers, medical device fee, indoor tanning services and comparative effectiveness fee.
  • Business related provisions, including measures to encourage employer health coverage, Medicare Part D subsidy elimination, deduction limits for compensation paid by health insurance providers, nonprofit hospital requirements, credit for small business employee health coverage and cafeteria plan changes for small employers.
  • Reporting and compliance provisions, including wage (W-2) reporting, business payment (1099) reporting, individual mandate/employer penalties and disclosure of tax return information.
  • Individual related provisions, including individual mandates, refundable health care premium tax credit, account-based health plan restrictions and itemized deductions for medical expenses.
  • Exceptions, coverage and penalties related to individual mandates.
  • Penalties and other requirements related to employers.

Employees often look to their employers for information regarding benefits and insurance. Be prepared for the many questions and concerns from employees as a result of the passage of this historical health care reform bill. Participants will leave with a toolkit that can be used within their company. If you work for a company that employs 50 or fewer employees, an extra discount is available to you. Discounts also are available for multiple attendees and South Carolina Chamber members.
