Committees:
Turning Ideas Into Action

The permanent, standing, and independent committees of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce turn ideas into action. Chamber professionals coordinate and facilitate the work of volunteer members who share their talents and expertise on committees. In addition to taking ideas from the committees, the Chamber staff also conducts membership surveys, grassroots meetings, seminars and other events to develop action plans for achieving the Chamber’s mission of growing per capita income and increasing productivity.

Following are general membership requirements for joining a committee (some committees may have additional requirements):

  • All voting members of standing and permanent committees must be employed by or affiliated with a company or entity that is a South Carolina Chamber member.
  • Each member of a committee can serve a term of two years and be eligible for reelection.
  • Two or more consecutive, unexcused absences can result in removal from a committee.
  • No more than 10 percent of the membership of any committee or task force can be comprised of public, quasi-public or non-profit representatives.
  • Any SC Chamber member can apply in writing to the staff liaison.  Include in the letter your qualifications to be on the committee. The applicant will receive a response to his/her application and will be considered along with any other applicants whenever a vacancy occurs.

If you are interested in becoming involved in a South Carolina Chamber committee, check the list of committees below and then submit your letter of application. For more information contact Roxie Williamson at 800-799-4601.

Standing committees

The board of directors establishes the standing committees. All chairmen and vice chairmen of the standing committees are appointed by the president and ratified by the executive committee.

Permanent committees

Permanent committees are established by the Chamber to review critical business issues and make recommendations to a standing committee.

Affiliate/independent committees

Independent and affiliate committees are natural allies in supporting the Chamber’s mission to growing individual wealth and preparing the state for a global economy. In many cases the South Carolina Chamber provides back office support for these organizations.
