Employee Benefits Committee

The South Carolina Chamber Employee Benefits Committee seeks to maintain and improve quality health care, workers’ compensation and unemployment compensation in South Carolina while finding practical means of providing benefits and containing costs by:

  1. Developing programs to assure accessibility to quality health care for all citizens of our state. 
  2. Encouraging consideration of cost issues by representatives in the General Assembly and by representatives serving on commissions dealing with health care.
  3. Developing programs to give public recognition to health care providers who have voluntarily implemented programs to reduce health care costs.
  4. Developing programs to give public recognition to health care providers who have voluntarily implemented programs to reduce health care costs.
  5. Dealing with issues in the health care industry involving over-regulation, cost-shifting and mandates.
  6. Seeking, whenever possible, solutions that encourage reduced medical costs without undue prejudice to the health care industry.
  7. Sharing with interested parties information obtained by the committee as to practical methods for containing health care costs

Additional Qualifications for Membership

Members must be employed by or affiliated with the employee benefits area or an attorney practicing in the area of labor-employment law. The committee is limited to 25 members. This committee reports through the HR committee.

Meeting Schedule

First Tuesday of each month during the legislative session, at the call of the chair the remainder of the year.
